High Performance Squad

An indication of our success is that three members of the current GB Men's Squad - Moe Sbihi, James Foad and our club captain, Andrew Triggs Hodge - are a product of our High Performance Squad Programme. Our impressive results are set out below which includes wins at the 2012 Henley Royal Regatta in the The Thames Cup and Visitors Challenge Cup.

We run a squad of around 30 men aged between 18 and 30 (though there is no limit on this!) whose main aim is to finish as high as possible in the Head of the River Race, win at Henley Royal Regatta and strive for a place in the National Team.  If the latter two are not likely, then winning races both domestically and abroad is the usual order of the day.  Both top-end juniors, members of the Senior Squad and our World Class Start athletes will also race with the High Performance Squad, when time allows from various other projects.

Sponsorship

We are very grateful to ISPS and Skipton Building Society for their continued sponsorship and support.  Find more details on our Sponsorship page.

Training

The squad trains as a full group at the weekends and in the week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and every evening except Friday. Those trialling will, where possible, train a bit later on week day mornings and aim to do sessions before lunch but this is flexible depending on job/university work.

We have a good fleet of boats made up of Empachers and Filippi's.

Main Events

The main events entered include - Pairs Head, Fours Head, Wallingford Head, Remenham Head, Quintin Head, Reading Head, HoRR, Ghent/Wallingford Regatta, Met Regatta, Marlow Regatta and HRR.  Other local races at Walton, Twickenham and Thames Ditton are entered also.  We also race both Oxford and Cambridge annually.  In 2011 we did the Red Bull X-Row, finishing 4th and are planning on doing so again, as well as the Head of the Charles.
