Masters
Masters' Rowing at MBC
With approximately 120 men and women, ranging in age from 27 to 82, there is a thriving Masters’ squad at Molesey.
As is the nature of Masters’ squads, the various men and women’s groups operate more independently than the senior rowing squads, to the extent that some masters own their boats. Each group tends to have their own water and land training schedule, which they manage to balance around their work and home lives. We are a friendly squad and encourage each other in our cross-training when conditions keep us off the water - sometimes this is done in the club bar!

Molesey have a racing pedigree and there is a good core of keen oarsmen and women who regularly compete. The main focus for racing is at Henley Masters and The National Championship. Here the crew of Magnus, Karl, Andy and Telfyn have won Masters B and C coxless fours at Henley Masters and National Masters Championships and were unbeaten for three years. The four also holds the second fastest overall record at the Boston Marathon.

In addition we race at many local regattas, The Boston Marathon and even The Valonga in Venice for kicks!
However, it is not necessary to be highly competitive to enjoy being a member of the Masters’ Squad at Molesey; the important thing is to get on the water and enjoy the sport of rowing.
We welcome newcomers as well as those who don’t wish to race, but simply enjoy rowing on one of the finest reaches on the Thames - from Molesey, past Hampton and up to Sunbury-on-Thames. The lock system on the river means that we benefit from non-tidal conditions all the year round.
Masters’ Other Activities
As the Masters’ squad provides a wealth of experience, many are involved in the running of the club. This can include helping out at our own Regatta, serving on the Committee, writing the club newsletter or simply being there to show a youngster how best to rack a boat. Like many things in life, you tend to get out what you put in – so getting involved in club life can be both fulfilling and rewarding.
The social calendar also includes the annual pilgrimage to Remenham Club during Henley Regatta. Club athletes always take part in the racing while the more seasoned members relax over some refreshment and watch the racing.
