GB Rowing Team Start

‘Start’ is a GB Rowing Team programme which focuses on recruiting and developing future Olympic Rowers.  Currently one third of the 2012 senior GB Rowing Team consists of athletes identified and developed through the Start programme.  Those recruited onto the programme receive coaching from experienced coaches and attend regular testing camps to monitor progress.  

There is a network of Start Centres around the UK with the Molesey Centre being one of the most successful and established bases.  Molesey’s Start athletes were all recruited based on their exceptional natural potential, and with targeted training and coaching they are all seeking to gain a foothold on the GB Rowing Team pathway.

Athletes from Molesey’s Start Programme have successfully represented Great Britain at Junior U23 and Senior World Championship level and one of Molesey’s Start graduates is currently in the line-up for the London 2012 Olympics.

At present there are eleven Start athletes at Molesey spanning all categories and while there is a focus on individual development, all the athletes are well integrated into the club’s squads and compete, representing Molesey at domestic and international events.

The Start Coach
