We also had representation in a number of other events who did very well and I hope you enjoyed the regatta and learnt from it.

Whilst the regatta success is generally gauged by what crews win, without doubt none of this could be achieved without the hard work from so many people, in particular; Ed and the coaches, Marcia and Karen who organised the crew logistic, Geoff for the tents and "Geoff's Cafe", Jon Higgs for boat loading and trailer driving but also all those parents and supporters who made the long journey up the M1 to cheer the Molesey crews, without you all there we would not have been able to share this experience so thank you all very much.

MBC Juniors Show Championship Pedigree

E-mail Print PDF

Molesey's Juniors returned from the National Schools Regatta with 6 medals, beaten in quantity of medals won by Eton, Headington and Radley, not bad company to be mixing with. The weekend had many high points and one incredible yet agonising race.

National School's starts on Friday with racing over 1000m for j14s and j15 small boat crews. For the MBC crews racing it was very much an opportunity to learn about racing on a multilane course and experience executing good rowing under the pressure of racing, all the crews that raced ended the day expressing an understanding of what had gone well and what could be learned from. This is an essential learning experience that applied correctly can only strengthen young athletes as they move through the squad.

NO PARKING DURING ROWING HOURS

E-mail Print PDF

The committee has decided to stop parking on the forecourt during rowing hours. Too many cars are coming down looking for parking places or getting blocked in by boats, and we want to prevent accidents to people and equipment, and use the parking spaces for the boat trailers. Cars delivering things are ok, and certain people, for instance coaches with equipment, will be given exemption certificates - so unless you are bringing something to unload or have a certificate please park in Graburn Way, which the club owns, or in the Hurst Meadows Public Car Park, which is never locked. Please co-operate and let's just have boats on the forecourt from now on. Signs will be put up shortly.

Shepherd and Anderson excel in Munich

E-mail Print PDF

Amber Anderson and Jack Shepherd returned from Munich this weekend (8th/9th May) with 2 golds and a bronze. This is the first time a girls four has won gold at this regatta and only the third time a boys crew has won.

On the Saturday Jack and Amber were at bow in their respective coxless fours and came through close racing to cross the line first. On the Sunday Jack added to his gold with a bronze in the eight.

The GB rowing team enter Munich regatta because the level of the entries is such that it provides an excellent test of our leading juniors in the run up to the Junior Worlds later in the summer. Amber Anderson (at Molesey on the Start programme, supported by Siemens) and Jack Shepherd (in his second season with Molesey, having started his rowing at Weybridge) had both been selected for the top crews on day one following impressive performances at trials in February, March and April.

Both athletes will now be representing Molesey at the National Schools regatta and Henley before returning to the last stage of testing for the GB team. Should they be successful at final trials they will represent Great Britain at the Junior Worlds in Racice, Czech Republic in August this year.

Wallingford Regatta (or maybe "Wellingford"!)

By 9.30am having been at Dorney for two hours and now completely soaked through, I was ready to go home!  If I had, I would probably have missed one of the most enjoyable regattas I’ve been to without getting into a boat or having a blazer on!

Why? Well, for me here are some of the main reasons:
