The two happiest people cycling around London’s Royal Albert Dock this weekend were Molesey’s Director of Rowing Tom Courtney and his Junior High Performance Manager Ed Green as they watch all of the Molesey Juniors win silverware at Poplar Regatta on Sunday 10th May.
The first win came in the shape of the Junior Women Quadruple Sculls crewed by Amelda Gare, Hannah Waltham-Hier, Megan Nicholls and Colette Abel, who won the Lady Hardy Shield. Courtenay Hallwood later in the day won the Novice Ladies Singles Sculls.
Aaron Wilkins and Patrick Graham won the Junior Mens Double Sculls beating crews by over 5 lengths from Norwich, St Neots, Sir William Borlase School and Royal Docks Rowing Club.
Aaron and Patrick then teamed upped with Jack Sheppard, Lewis Thorpe and Cox Bruno Hallwood in the Junior Men Coxed Four event. They won in emphatic style over crews from Dulwich College, Emanuel, Canford and Kings School Canterbury. The crew owe a lot of thanks to new Molesey Coach Paul Wilcox who has been instrumental in moulding, developing, fine tuning and ingraining the crew rhythm and stroke pattern for this boat.
So strong is the Molesey Junior Coxed four, which had also won a Men’s Intermediate Coxed Four event at Wallingford Regatta the previous weekend, that Jack Sheppard was invited to row in the seven seat of the Hampton School First Eight. They won the Junior Men Eights beating crews that had been previously quicker. This was a tremendous achievement for Jack.
All crews will now be looking to medal at The National Schools Regatta later in May.
In all it has been a very pleasing weekend.
