Issued by Molesey Boat Club.
11th November 2009
We are very pleased to announce that Ben Lewis will join Molesey Boat Club at the start of December as the club’s new Head Coach.
Ben brings the experience of having competed at the top levels of our sport, both as an oarsman and as a coach.
Having progressed from Captain of St. Edwards School, then President of Oxford Brookes University Boat Club he has competed in; six Henley Royal Regatta Finals, winning the Ladies Challenge Plate in 2004, Head of the River Race in 2005 as well as being a runner-up in 2002, National Champions in Men’s VIII in 2002, competing for GB in the Hanse Cup, World University Games and U23.
The success Ben has enjoyed as an oarsman has been transferred to his coaching. He was Assistant Coach at Leander Club coaching the crews that won the Thames Cup in 2007 and Ladies Challenge Plate in 2008 as well as co-coordinating a clean sweep of titles at National Championship in 2008 and four titles in 2007. His 2008 crew also finished third in the Head of the River Race.
More recently Ben was Interim-Head Coach of Williams College, USA, where he coached them to their first major championship victories in 13 years; winning the Collegiate VIII’s at the Head of the Charles and the New England Championship Regatta, making them the dominant crew in the league and the most successful Williams crew to date.
We believe that by appointing Ben he has the necessary experience and knowledge to help us build on our recent wins at Henley Royal Regatta. He will also continue Molesey’s development as a High Performance Centre and provide a pathway for athletes aspiring to the Senior and U23 teams to development.
