Molesey's Tough Guy

Tough Guy bills itself as “the safest most dangerous event in the world” and it claims to be the world’s most demanding one day survival ordeal. It’s organised by Billy Wilson on a farm near Wolverhampton and there have been 25 stagings of the winter event. They’ve had two fatalities: heart attacks and having done it I can see why. It’s actually a cross country run with lots of obstacles on the way. It took me 2 hours and 45 minutes but I was so cold at the end I forgot to check my time.

I deliberately didn’t read any of the blurb about it beforehand because I didn’t want to put myself off. I now know that every year up to a third of the participants fail to complete it, mostly due to hypothermia. When you arrive at the event you have to sign a “Death Warrant”, which claims to absolve the organisers of any responsibility for injury.

Harry Pickett

Harry Pickett died on 18th December after a long and courageous fight against illness.

He joined the club in 1953 becoming first eight stroke, committee stalwart, President and Vice-President during his years in the club. He worked hard in many roles, the latest of which was a big contribution to the development of the club house which was finished in 2005.

Many club members have expressed their sympathy individually. This note is on behalf of all members of the club in recognition of the passing of such a stalwart.

The funeral will take place at 11am on Thursday 5th January at Randalls Park Crematorium, Leatherhead. The family have asked for no flowers, but if anyone would like to, donations to St Luke's Cancer Centre, Guildford, would be most appreciated.
