Molesey Juniors on home turf: Hampton Head 2016

The Junior Squad took part in their first race of 2016 in extremely challenging and blustery conditions. With limited preparation due to the river conditions, they found themselves competing against clubs from across the country in a strong field comparable to that of the National Schools’ Regatta. The perfect opportunity to see where they stand at this early stage of the season.

Top result of the day came from the newly formed JW18 4x of Layla Wheeldon, Georgie Grant, Holly Dunford and Phoebe Truett. With only 3 sessions under their belt, the crew finished 2nd by 0.3s and showed great promise for the upcoming regatta season.

The squad produced 3 further top 5 finishes with the JM18 4+ and JW16 4x in very strong 3rd places and the JM16 4x a close 4th.

The younger members of the junior squads were also competing, with many having only started rowing on the Beginner Courses held last Summer. The most encouraging of these was from the WJ14 4x+ finishing 8th.

The overall squad performance was a big step on from the event last season and an encouraging sign for the Summer.

Final Positions were:

JW18 4x 2nd, JM18 4+ 3rd, JW16 4x 3rd, JM16 4x 4th, WJ16 4+ 8th, WJ18 2x 9th, WJ18 2- 9th, J18 2x 9th, J18 4x 16th, WJ15 4x+ 24th, WJ14 4x+ 8th, WJ15 2x 12th

Upcoming events for the Junior Squad over the next month include GB Junior Trials, Kingston Head, Schools’ Head and the Scullery in March.
