COVID-19 Update 18/3

Dear members, I was hoping to write to you on more positive news about the club. However, the escalating COVID-19 situation has forced rowing decisions that I believe are the socially responsible thing to do. Therefore, with intensive consultation with Committee officers, coaches and members, I have made the following decisions: Juniors: No junior rowing at MBC until further notice (at least two weeks). In collaboration with Whitgift (which I think is fantastic) we will have online training programme and competitions that will help keep our junior members and hosted club members stay active and engaged. Senior rowing: To move to land based and cross training from Monday onwards. All organised water training to finish on Sundayand none from next week. All other organised rowing: To be suspended from Monday onwards. Gym: To be closed to all except the High-Performance squad's final 2k arrangements. Changing rooms: To be closed to everyone from tomorrow. Private Sculling: To be reviewed and an answer given before Monday. We will constantly monitor the situation, and as soon as we get a report that we can begin resuming as normal then we will do just that. If government advice change, I will respond accordingly. I understand that other clubs are doing different things, and I know the frustration this will cause. However, I feel this is the right thing to do with the information we have been given and our specific circumstances as a club. We must protect the health of our members, coaches and volunteers, which comes above all else. I know we have several very active older members in the club. If you are in this definition, I implore you to consider your health and the risks associated with coming down to the club. Above all else, your health and wellbeing are our top priority at MBC. If you have any questions, queries and ideas, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I will do my best to get back to you.  Kind regards and stay healthy, Joel Cassells Captain
